How a PodiaScan screening works

Thermal asymmetry between matching zones on the left and right foot is one of the earliest measurable signals of diabetic foot inflammation. PodiaScan turns that comparison into a repeatable, one-minute clinic routine.

  1. 1. Pair the thermometer

    The clinician connects a handheld infrared thermometer to the scan screen. Readings can also be typed in manually if the device is offline.

  2. 2. Record twelve points

    Six plantar zones are measured on each foot — hallux, first, third and fifth metatarsal heads, midfoot and heel — giving twelve readings per session.

  3. 3. Compare left against right

    Each zone is compared with the same zone on the opposite foot. The absolute difference is the contralateral delta.

  4. 4. Colour-coded triage

    Under 1.5 °C is green, 1.5–2.1 °C is an amber warning, and 2.2 °C or greater is flagged crimson and raises a critical inflammation alert.

  5. 5. Store, trend and export

    Sessions are saved against the patient record, plotted over a rolling 90-day window and exported as a branded clinical PDF report.
